Thanks to one of my lovely friends on Facebook, I know that there are now 50 days left until Christmas. For us adults, that translates to "Holy cow, only 50 days? How will I ever get everything done?" But if you're a kid, those 50 days may as well be 500. My kids have been asking how many days since the end of summer!

The Gratitude Tree: A Beautiful Reminder for Thanksgiving and Year-Round

 By far my favorite item in our Holiday Mini Celebrations Catalog is our Gratitude Tree with dry-erase leaves. I do love everything in the catalog, and the holiday products in our main catalogs, but I find this one particularly meaningful, and so does my family.

The Gratitude Tree entered our home in late September when I got my first shipment from the Holiday Mini. My (thankfully tall) husband helped me put it up and my daughter started putting the dry erase pieces on the leaves. We decorated our tree exactly the way we wanted, with several leaves falling as if a strong wind had shaken them loose. I pulled out my set of dry-erase pens and immediately wrote all 3 kids' names on some leaves. Then I told my family it was their turn to start filling more leaves with things they're thankful for.

I was instantly touched and surprised at their responses. I expected answers like "M&Ms" and "ice cream." But I loved hearing them come up with "my family," "school," and even "God."

I loved the insights I got into my kids' minds, and knowing that they don't take for granted some of the things that are so important in our family. Even my husband, who's not always the biggest fan of "stickers on the wall," is really enjoying this special item.

I've heard rumors that our next catalog will be the biggest one yet. To make room for all of the new items it will contain, many of our designs are being retired. Someone's Counting Down

We have a birthday coming up in our family.

Not just a birthday, but a big one. My daughter is hitting double digits. [gulp]

As she is truly her mother's daughter she has spent the better part of the last two months planning, choosing a theme, then rejecting it, then choosing another, creating a guest list, adding people, removing them after a spat, then making up and putting them back, rejecting suggested menus, rolling her eyes, finalizing the timeline and obsessing over every single detail. She's having a few girls over for a slumber party, but in her mind, it is the most important day EVER.

The day will be important for me too. Ten years ago, I was a nervous mom-to-be, so worried about surviving my baby's delivery that I hardly gave much thought about what came after. Now, I look back on the last decade [double gulp] and I find it difficult to process all the changes that have taken place in our family during that time. Needless to say, my daughter's tenth birthday will be a big day for both of us.

One of the (non-obsessive) things my daughter has done in preparation for her birthday has been using the new Uppercase Living Birthday Countdown kit. This month I'm starting a new feature in my newsletter: I will showcase a client who uses Uppercase Living products in her/his home or business and tell you a little about the client. This month I'd like to introduce you to Joanne Marek. I met Joanne earlier this year at a UL party at her neighbor's home. She loved our products but was concerned about how the lettering would look on her wallpapered walls.
